Dr. Kimberly Hobbs is a native of the Chicago, Illinois community. She loves God and wants others to grow in their relationship with him. Her assignment in ministry is to encourage others to make God greater in their daily lives. As a personal testimony, Dr. Hobbs is saved, sanctified, and filled with God’s Precious Holy Spirit. She has been involved in church most of her life and had the importance of salvation and church instilled in her at an early age by her mother. Growing up in a holiness church as a child, she saw and experienced the awesome power of God. She grew up in a church with the five-fold ministry in effect and because of that she witnessed miracles, experienced all night shut in prayers, and saw the demonstrated power of deliverance.
Dr. Hobbs is the daughter and stepdaughter of her remarkable parents, Fressie and Jerry Johnson. She attended the public schools of Cook County, and graduated from Morgan Park High School in Chicago. Even through elementary school and high school, she has always had a passion for singing and sang in the gospel choir. After graduation from high school, she enrolled at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2002 with Cum Laude honors as a Biological Sciences major with a Chemistry minor. As an undergraduate student, Dr. Hobbs was the recipient of several scholarships including the General Motors Scholarship, the UAH Harold J. Wilson Scholarship, the NASA Space Grant Scholarship and the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation Scholarship. As an upperclassman, she mentored freshman and sophomore students who were majoring in the sciences. After graduation, she worked as a Research Intern at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago researching circadian rhythms and sleep medicine.
In 2018, she received her doctorate degree from UAH in Biotechnology Science and Engineering. Her research project observed the genetic role of the cyclin dependent kinase (CDKN) gene in the immune response for complex diseases. Her work specifically highlighted the role of monocytic cellular migration with the expression of the CDKN gene and other important genes. Overall this work offered insight to how immune cells respond under stress and provides a genetic evaluation of specific genes connected to the progression of cardiovascular disease. As a graduate student, Dr. Hobbs was a National Science Foundation Bridge to the Doctorate Scholar, Harriet G. Jenkins NASA Pre-doctoral Fellow and an Adriel D. Johnson graduate student fellow. All of these fellowships funded her education for her M.S. degree and her Ph.D. Dr. Hobbs currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Alabama A & M University in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. She also serves as Adjunct Faculty at Calhoun Community College in the Department of Natural Sciences. She has a passion to help mentor and scientifically train students within the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) disciplines. Dr. Hobbs serves as a public speaker and professional development trainer for undergraduate and graduate students. She has mentored and trained students within the STEM disciplines for over 15 years.
Dr. Hobbs has been married to her wonderful husband Timothy Hobbs for 19 years and together they have two amazing sons, Timothy and Chase. She is also a dedicated church member and serves in the following capacities within the ministry: Adult Choir Member and Assistant Director, member of the Hospitality Board, Youth Choir Director, and President of the Scholarship Committee. Dr. Hobbs realized for over a year there was a call to another level in God for her. She didn’t make a move until she was certain she was following God’s timing of elevation and accepted her calling into the ministry in 2019. Her commitment to ministry is helping individuals develop and strengthen their relationship with God.
Personally, Dr. Hobbs enjoys writing, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Most recently, Dr. Hobbs became an author with the release of her first book entitled “Write God a Psalm, A 30 Day Devotional Journey to Draw Near”. This powerful devotional book is set to challenge readers to build their relationship with God and encourages readers to commune with him in a different way. Above all else, Dr. Hobbs loves the Lord, preaches the Gospel, and believes that having a strong relationship with God is essential to success in life.
